RE: Imaging Features of Hepato-Splenic Amyloidosis at PET/CT

چکیده
Regarding the imaging of hepatic amyloidosis with PET/CT, we read with interest the case report by Son and colleagues (1) in the Sep-Oct 2011 issue of the Korean Journal of Radiology. A few points need to be discussed with more detail. First, although the enhanced CT scan of the spleen exhibited a decreased and diffuse parenchymal attenuation, this observation was not sufficiently emphasized within the manuscript. The radiological finding of splenic hypoperfusion has been well described in the literature as a marker of systemic amyloidosis, which presents a useful clue when clinical findings fail to determine the proper diagnosis (2). In the case reported by Son and colleagues, if the radiologist had immediately suggested the correct diagnostic hypothesis, the patient would have been directed to have the the appropriate

False-positive FDG PET CT Scan in Vertebral Hemangioma
FDG PET CT scan is considered to be a sensitive tool to detect skeletal metastasis in known malignancies. However, it’s high sensitivity and low specificity may account for false positive diagnosis in cases of trauma, infection, inflammation and other benign conditions. Skeletal hemangioma is one of the common benign conditions which are typically ametabolic on FDG PET CT with no uptake on bone...
متن کاملSclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT) of the spleen: a case report with FDG-PET findings and literature review
We report the 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) findings of sclerosing angiomatoid nodular transformation (SANT) of the spleen. The patient was a 37-year-old woman with a splenic mass incidentally found on abdominal ultrasound. FDG-PET/CT showed weak FDG accumulation (maximum standardized uptake value = 3.65). An unenhanced CT scan showed a...
متن کاملDefining an imaging algorithm for noncystic splenic lesions identified in young patients.
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to classify noncystic splenic lesions detected on imaging in young patients (0-30 years) and to determine the optimal imaging workup for such lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study was conducted at three academic institutions by performing a database search of radiology reports (2002-2011) to identify patients with noncystic splenic lesions. Medical ...
متن کاملFDG-avid portal vein tumor thrombosis from hepatocellular carcinoma in contrast-enhanced FDG PET/CT
Objective(s): In this study, we aimed to describe the characteristics of portal vein tumor thrombosis (PVTT), complicating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in contrast-enhanced FDG PET/CT scan. Methods: In this retrospective study, 9 HCC patients with FDG-avid PVTT were diagnosed by contrast-enhanced fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT), which is a comb...
متن کاملF-18 FDG PET/CT Imaging of Eccrine Sweat Gland Carcinoma of the Scrotum with Extensive Regional and Distant Metastases
Eccrine carcinoma is an extremely rare malignant skin cancer arising from eccrine sweat glands with a high metastatic potential. It mainly occurs in the elderly, with equal incidence in both sexes. It usually spreads to regional lymph nodes, with liver, lungs, and bones being the most common sites of distant metastasis. Because of tumor rarity, little is known about the value of F18- FDG PET/CT...
